KINNELON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — New Jersey authorities are leading a recovery operation for two New Jersey ice fishermen who are believed to have drowned at a reservoir Friday.
The men, a 76-year-old from Passaic and a 64-year-old from Clifton, were at Split Rock Reservoir in Kinnelon to ice fish Friday but were reported missing Saturday by family members.
When authorities responded to the reservoir, the pair’s personal belongings were found on the shoreline. Two holes were also in the ice about 100 yards from the shore, according to officials.
Rescue teams recovered the body of one of the men Saturday but the search had to be discontinued for the day before they were able to find the other man.
The victims’ names have not yet been released.
