WEST HAVEN, Conn. (1010 WINS) — Police arrested the son of a Connecticut woman whose dismembered and decomposed body was discovered in garbage bags at her home last month.
Theodore Lloyd, 27, was arrested for attempted arson, authorities said.
Officials launched an investigation on March 24 after the woman's older son requested a welfare check at a residence on Nashawina Avenue in West Haven, reporting that he hadn't heard from his mother in several weeks.
Upon arrival, investigators discovered between 25 and 30 garbage bags hidden in a closet with 14 to 16 of them containing dismembered body parts, authorities said. They also found that someone had tried to burn the house down.
Detectives determined the remains to be of 70-year-old Tina Lloyd. West Haven Police believe she had been dead for 2 months.
Investigators also found multiple "cutting utensils," an electric chainsaw and items "that would be used to start a fire" at the home, Det. Jeffrey Gabianelli said.
Lloyd was identified as the suspect in an arson attempt at the home. He was arrested on Monday, April 14 by Hartford police then transported to the West Haven Police Department.
Lloyd has not been charged in his mother’s death and is being held on $1 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 27 and may face additional charges as the investigation continues.
