NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A woman was killed and a driver in a minivan that crashed into a state monument on Thanksgiving Day is in critical condition, officials said.
According to Buffalo police Capt. Jeff Rinaldo, the vehicle was traveling at an "extreme rate of speed" around 7:30 a.m., when it slammed into the McKinley Monument in Niagara Square.
"Yup. This really happened on this #Thanksgiving in downtown #Buffalo A speeding car coming down Delaware Ave plowed up and into the McKinley Monument," Dave McKinley shared photos of the incident on Twitter.
"Unbelievable," he added.
The woman, later identified as Angel Marie Cobb, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the unidentified 40-year-old driver in critical condition at ECMC Hospital.
An investigation remains ongoing.
