NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A driver hit a 12-year-old cyclist outside a high school on Long Island on Thursday, leaving him in serious condition, police said.
The 54-year-old woman was turning a Ford Econoline Van right into a parking lot at East Rockaway High School on Ocean Avenue around 10:25 a.m. on Thursday when she hit the boy, Nassau County police said.
The boy was helicoptered to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for internal bleeding and abrasions to his hands and face, police said.
He was listed in serious condition as of Thursday afternoon, according to police.
The driver stayed at the scene and hadn't been charged as of Thursday afternoon, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
