NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Many New York voters do not think Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign due to the sexual harassment scandal in which he is currently embroiled, according to the results of a new survey.
Siena College Research Institute polled 804 registered New York state voters and found only 35 percent wanted Cuomo to step down immediately, results released Monday showed.
Fifty percent said they believed Cuomo should not resign; 15 percent, meanwhile, were not sure whether or not he should resign.
While the survey found that 45 of New York voters viewed the governor in an unfavorable light — with 43 percent viewing him favorably — 57 percent were "satisfied with the way Cuomo has addressed the violations," compared to 32 percent who are "not satisfied."
"Voters appear to be able to compartmentalize how they feel about Cuomo," Siena spokesman Steve Greenberg said in a statement.
"While their views on him generally — favorability, job performance, re-elect — took a significant hit this month, voters' views on Cuomo's handling of the pandemic remain largely positive, except for his handling of nursing home death data," he added.
