CARLE PLACE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a man for robbery after he allegedly pulled a gun on a worker at a Long Island gas station last month after his card declined.

The incident happened on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 6:37 p.m., police said.


According to detectives, a man driving a 2016 black BMW 328iS drove up to the Lukoil gas Station located at 500 Westbury Ave. in Carle Place and attempted use his debit card to pay for gas, but was denied.

The man, identified as Roy Braithwaite, 34, became upset and began to yell at the 18-year-old employee inside.

Braithwaite then threw a chair against a merchandise display case and displayed a black handgun, pointing it at the employee, officials said.

He then demanded that his gas transaction be authorized and the employee, fearing for his life, complied.

Braithwaite then proceeded to pump approximately $3.00 worth of gas before fleeing in his vehicle.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

Following an investigation Braithwaite was placed under arrest at his home residence on Monday without incident.

Braithwaite was charged with robbery and menacing. He will be arraigned on Tuesday.
