
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A boil-water advisory was issued after a body was found in an Upstate New York reservoir on Tuesday, authorities said.
According to officials, at about 8 a.m., employees with the the City of Rochester Bureau of Water discovered the body of an adult male in the Highland Park Reservoir during a daily inspection.
Upon discovery, the reservoir was immediately shut down and the Monroe County Department of Health ordered the city to issue a Boil Water Notice to neighborhoods served by the reservoir out of an over-abundance of caution.
"Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth, and preparing food until further notice," city officials said.
Multiple samples will be collected from the water distribution system over the next 16 hours to confirm the water quality has not been impacted and the reservoir will not be put back into service until it has been drained and cleaned.
Police divers were able to remove the body of from the water and the medical examiner's office will work to identify the person.
The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear and an investigation is ongoing.
