FREEPORT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — An 89-year-old driver fatally ran down a pedestrian on Long Island on Tuesday evening, Nassau County officials said.
At 5:04 p.m., an 89-year-old man was driving a 2014 Lincoln southbound on North Main Street in Freeport in the left lane when he struck a 73-year-old woman crossing the road eastbound on North Main Street in the vicinity of Stevens Street, officials said.
The pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
