MINEOLA, N.Y. (1010 WINS) – An allegedly drunk and high motorcyclist was arraigned on manslaughter and other charges over a fatal 2022 crash on Long Island, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced Tuesday.
Christopher Flores was arraigned on charges of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter in the first and second degree, assault, driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of alcohol and drugs, operating a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, reckless endangerment, and reckless driving.
Flores pleaded not guilty and was released to pre-trial services. He is due back in court May 30.
According to the charges, at approximately 11:53 p.m. on March 19, 2022, Scott Brower was crossing Merrick Road at South Forest Avenue in a crosswalk in Rockville Center when he was allegedly struck by Flores, who was driving a 2020 BMW motorcycle eastbound on Merrick Road at a high rate of speed while allegedly intoxicated and high.
Flores was thrown from the motorcycle, which crashed into another vehicle before finally coming to rest.
Brower, 42, was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, DA Donnelly said.
Flores also suffered significant physical injuries and was transported to Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside for treatment.
He was arrested by members of the Nassau County Police Department on March 20, 2022.
If convicted, the defendant faces up to five to 15 years in prison.
"Scott Brower was walking home after meeting a friend for drinks in celebration of Rockville Centre’s Irish Day when he was struck by the defendant who was allegedly driving his motorcycle while under the influence of drugs and alcohol," said DA Donnelly. "Despite making the responsible choice, Scott never made it home that night and later died. NCDA will vigorously prosecute individuals who ignore our laws and endanger pedestrians and fellow motorists."
