NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Authorities are investigating a helicopter that landed in shallow water on Long Island on Wednesday.
At about 4:30 p.m., the private helicopter landed on the bay side of Loop Parkway near Jones Beach.
The pilot was rescued by the US Coast Guard with the help of a nearby civilian boater.
According to a preliminary statement from the FAA, A Bell 206B helicopter crashed into the water near Point Lookout with only the pilot aboard.
The pilot only suffered minor injuries WABC-TV reports.
Officials said the pilot may have been having navigational problems due to heavy fog.
An investigation by the FAA and NTSB is ongoing.
