NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A murder-for-hire plot was foiled over the weekend, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced on Monday.
Navdeep Singh, 48, of Dix Hills, was arraigned on Sunday on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and criminal solicitation.
Prosecutors allege that Singh attempted to hire a hitman to kill a business associate. Both Singh and the intended victim are involved in the construction industry and the alleged plot is believed to stem from a civil lawsuit between the two.
According to D.A. Donnelly, Singh allegedly offered the hitman $100,000 and 10 acres of land in India to kidnap and dismember the rival. He also told the hitman he wanted a picture of the man's head and another of his body.
Singh was reportedly given a down payment of $7,000 but ultimately decided to go to the authorities.
Singh pleaded not guilty to the charges and is being held on a $2 million bond. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
