AMITY HARBOR, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A police officer was stabbed while he was trying to take arrest a suspect early Tuesday morning, Suffolk County officials said.
At about 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call about two men looking into parked cars on Gibbs Road in Amity Harbor. Upon arrival, police took one man into custody while the other fled on foot, authorities said.
Police tracked down the second suspect who allegedly swung a knife when officers tried to put him in handcuffs, striking one of the officers in the leg and chin.
The officers were able to disarm the suspect and take him into custody.
The officer who was stabbed was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Charges are pending against both men.
