NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Long Island man has been arrested and charged in connection with the hit-and-run death of rapper Nicki Minaj's father, police said Wednesday.

Charles Polevich, 70, of Mineola, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a fatality and tampering with evidence on Wednesday, Nassau County police said in a press release.

Police say Minaj's father, 64-year-old Robert Maraj, was walking on Roslyn Road, at the intersection of Raff Avenue in Mineola, around 6:15 p.m. on Friday when Polevich hit him with his Volvo station wagon.

Maraj was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday, police said. Polevich is accused of fleeing the scene after the accident.

Minaj, who was born Onika Tanya Maraj, has yet to issue a statement regarding her father’s death.

Polevich's attorney information wasn't immediately available Wednesday. An investigation is ongoing.
