NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — Suffolk County police arrested an 18-year-old woman Tuesday night after she attempted to flee the scene of a crash that seriously injured a man on Long Island.
According to officials, at approximately 6 p.m., Edward Marone, 54, was sitting in a parked car on the corner of Lloyd Avenue and Skidmore Road in North Babylon, when he witnessed a 2023 Mercedes Benz C30 strike a utility pole in front of 163 Skidmore Rd., causing it to snap and fall.
Marone exited his vehicle to check on the welfare of the driver, Marianne Mkrtchian. But she put her car in reverse and struck Marone, pinning him against his vehicle, authorities said.
Mkrtchian then put her car in drive and allegedly attempted to flee the scene.
A second man, who witnessed the crash, picked up a brick and threw it at the Mercedes, shattering the windshield. Mkrtchian then stopped and exited her vehicle as patrol officers arrived at the scene and placed her under arrest, police said.
Marone was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Detectives charged Mkrtchian with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious physical injury. She will be arraigned at a later date.
