Man, 82, fatally struck in NY hit-run crash, driver sought

HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — The search is on for the driver wanted in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of an 82-year-old man in Rockland County on Tuesday morning.

Police said the victim was crossing Route 9W near Fairmount Avenue in Haverstraw shortly before 5 a.m. when he was hit.

WABC-TV identified the victim as Juan Alberto Germonsen, a resident of a nearby assisted living facility.

The victim was reportedly found lying in the street and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Haverstraw Police on Tuesday evening released an image of the vehicle, which left the scene.

It is described as a silver or white Ford Explorer with dark rims and a moonroof.

Police said the vehicle should be missing the passenger side mirror and have damage to the front passenger side bumper.

The vehicle was last seen heading north on Route 9W from New Main Street.
