NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating the death of a man who was struck by two vehicles while trying to cross a Long Island street Wednesday night, according to authorities.
The incident happened at approximately 6:20 p.m. as the 32-year-old victim attempted to cross Henry Street in Freeport and was first struck by a Chevrolet SUV heading southbound on Henry Street.
A 67-year-old man who was driving the SUV stopped and remained at the scene, officials said.
The victim was lying in the street when he was struck by a second vehicle, authorities said.
According to police, the second vehicle was a sedan heading southbound on the street.
The driver initially stopped then fled the scene, officials said.
The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Authorities have not released the victim's identity.
An investigation remains ongoinig.
