SHIRLEY, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Suffolk County police are investigating the death of a man who was pulled from the water by good Samaritans on Long Island Sunday afternoon.
Officers responded to Outer Beach at Smith Point County Park in Shirley at approximately 3:55 p.m. after good Samaritans pulled an unresponsive man from the water, authorities said.
The man was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.
The man, who is believed to have drowned, has not yet been identified.
