NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York state's daily coronavirus positivity rate reached its lowest level "since the COVID-19 crisis began," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday.
The governor said the state's previous low for single-day COVID positivity was 0.65% on Aug. 27, 2020. On Friday, the daily rate reached 0.59%, down from 0.65% on Thursday.
Cuomo said the state's seven-day positivity rate was 0.76%—the lowest since Aug. 29—and has declined for 53 consecutive days.
New York City's seven-day positivity was 0.59%, according to state data, a decline from 0.62% the day before.
"As we head into summer, it is incredible to reflect on where we were with COVID a year ago," Cuomo said in a statement. "Thanks to the hard work of New Yorkers, we are getting closer to a reimagined normal every day."
The state reported 937 new cases and 11 deaths on Friday, including 390 cases and one death in New York City. Statewide hospitalizations fell by 54 to 1,169 patients.
