NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has slapped an unopened Lego theme park with a $346,000 fine for failing to stop stormwater from running through one of its construction sites into a nearby creek, according to a report.
Legoland New York, which is expected to open its doors in Orange County within the next few months, “repeatedly” let muddy stormwater wash through a construction area into Otterkill Creek in Goshen, LoHud reported.
The department imposed the fine as part of an agreement it reached with the park to prevent the issue from recurring, according to the outlet.
The director of the department’s regional office in New Paltz, Kelly Turturro, told the outlet her agency was “committed to holding Legoland accountable for violations of state environmental laws and regulations.”
A spokesman for Legoland said the park was “moving forward in compliance with all applicable requirements,” adding that the park “look[ed] forward to opening as planned,” the outlet reported.
