NY to up capacity at museums, zoos, movie theaters, indoor arenas: Cuomo

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York state will increase capacity limits at museums, zoos, movie theaters and indoor arenas within the next few weeks, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday.

Museums and zoos across the state will be allowed to increase their capacities to 50% starting Monday, April 26, Cuomo said at a news briefing.

Movie theaters will be able to increase their capacities to 33% that day as well, with other safety cautions in place, he said.

Large indoor arenas, meanwhile, will be allowed to host events at 25% capacity starting May 19, the governor said.

“May 19 is not a random date. We’ve been speaking with the teams,” he explained. “We’re optimistic, and that would be a time when playoffs would begin.”

The state reported 44 new COVID-19-related fatalities and a 2.94 percent infection rate on Monday, Cuomo noted.

“The numbers are stable and going down, right? So we can start to open up more economic activity,” he said.
