NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York state has reached its lowest levels of coronavirus hospitalizations and intensive care patients since early December, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday as he announced a new milestone in the effort to vaccinate New Yorkers.
Hospitalizations fell by 14 patients to 4,513, while the number of patients in intensive care decreased by 15 to 909.
The number of intubated patients also fell by 12 to 575.
While the numbers are an improvement from January, when the state's hospitalizations neared 8,000, they're still much higher than last summer, when the statewide total dropped below 500 patients in August.
Meanwhile, more than 5 million New Yorkers have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and more than 1 million doses were administered in the past seven days, according to the governor.
A total of 7,494,596 doses had been administered statewide as of Saturday morning, Cuomo said.
A quarter of New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose, while 13% have completed their vaccine series.
The state reported another 7,623 coronavirus cases and 258,129 tests, Cuomo said. The state's single-day positivity rate was 2.95%, while the seven-day positivity was 3.26%.
There were 62 more deaths, bring the state's pandemic death toll to 39,870, according to state data.
New York City reported another 3,764 cases and had a seven-day positivity rate of 4.03%, Cuomo said.
