NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday said he needn't have canceled his plans to attend President Joe Biden's inauguration, as only one protester showed up to the New York State Capitol building in Albany.
Cuomo decided not to attend President Joe Biden’s inauguration earlier this week amid reports that Trump supporters might hold demonstrations at state capitol buildings across the country.
At a news briefing on Wednesday, however, the governor said there "was, reportedly, one protester" outside the state Capitol building during the ceremony.
A Spectrum News reporter on Wednesday morning tweeted a photo of a single Trump supporter stationed outside the building holding a flag.
"I just took a look outside, I couldn’t find the protester,” Cuomo said. “As it turns out, the demonstration in New York was, I think it’s fair to say, less robust than anticipated.”
“But the protest didn’t materialize here in New York, to the extent that [that] gentleman represents the protest," he said. "I could have gone to the inaugural in retrospect."
“But it’s a new day,” he added. “And it’s a happy day.”
