SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is offering a $3,000 reward for tips that leads to an arrest after an abused dog died from severe injuries last November.

On Nov. 5, the male pit bull mix, later named "Meatloaf" by the staff, was brought to the Smithtown Animal Shelter after a good Samaritan found him wandering with "extensive injuries" on Croft Lane in Smithtown.

The dog had several injuries, including burns and infected wounds, animal shelter staff said.

"Unfortunately, Meatloaf’s injuries were too extreme, so he did not survive,” the Suffolk SPCA stated. "The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $3K reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for this heinous act of animal cruelty."
