NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that undocumented New Yorkers who suffered devastation from the remnants of Hurricane Ida, but are unable to collect federal assistance, will be eligible to receive up to $27 million in allocated aid.

The funding, which will be managed by the New York State Office for New Americans, is designated to undocumented individuals in Bronx, Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland counties that were targeted by the Presidential Major Disaster Declaration approval for Individual Assistance.

"When I saw the devastation of Hurricane Ida, I pledged that we would do everything in our power to help impacted communities recover, and this funding is a fulfillment of that promise," Hochul said in a statement. "With these resources dedicated to undocumented New Yorkers who are ineligible for FEMA relief and partnerships with organizations on the ground, we can close gaps in aid and help New Yorkers in need. I urge eligible New Yorkers to apply to get the funding they need to rebuild."

Bronx, Queens, Suffolk, Westchester, Staten Island and Bronx-based not-for-profit organizations will distribute the aid, with applications open to receive assistance starting Monday until Nov. 26.

For any assistance, those impacted can contact the ONA Hotline at 1-800-566-7636 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday or visit the partner not-for-profits starting Sept. 27.

De Blasio ensured all New Yorkers have access to assistance regardless of status.

"Regardless of documentation status, we will get support to the most recent victims of our climate crisis and are here to help every step of the way," he said in a statement.
