NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A dozen New York landmarks are being lit up green Thursday night in honor of Veterans Day and all eras of military service.

"Veteran's Day is a time to show our appreciation for the brave individuals who have served to protect our democracy and our freedoms," Gov. Kathy Hochul said. "Today's lighting represents our unwavering support to New York's veterans, showing them we will continue to stand by them and their families every single day."
The landmarks being lit up are:
One World Trade Center
Kosciuszko Bridge
Grand Central Terminal - Pershing Square Viaduct
MTA LIRR - East End Gateway at Penn Station
Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge
State Fairground — Main Gate and Expo Center
The Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge
H. Carl McCall SUNY Building
State Education Building
Alfred E. Smith State Office Building
Albany International Airport Gateway
Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex

The lights are happening as a part of Operation Green Light, a statewide initiative meant to visibly show support for all U.S. military service.
According to the governor’s office, over 714,000 vets live in New York. Hochul denoted the dozens of benefits the state offers to veterans and their families, including help with education, job seeking and disability compensation.
