WILLINGBORO, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating after a 14-year-old sitting in a vehicle at a New Jersey gas station was fatally shot in the head over the weekend, authorities said.

Just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 21, Willingboro Township police officers received a report of a shooting at the Phillips 66 gas station located in the first block of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Upon arrival, officials that the victim, later identified as 14-year-old Jesse Everett, had been transported in a private vehicle to Virtua Willingboro Hospital.

He was then airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m., according to a statement posted on Facebook by the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

An investigation revealed that the victim pulled up to the gas station pumps in a vehicle that had been reported to police earlier as stolen.

Shortly after, another vehicle entered the gas station where a male exited the passenger side of the second vehicle and approached the vehicle that Everett was in, and shot him once in the head, officials said.

Two other people were inside the car with Everett but did not sustain injuries.

"The incident is not considered to be a random confrontation," Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Willingboro Township Public Safety Director Kinamo Lomon said in the joint statement.

A GoFundMe page was made by Danielle Everett, the teen's mom who described her son as a "goofy, loving, caring and supportive" person who was to "senseless" gun violence.

So far, no arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing.
