NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 13-year-old bicyclist reported being injured by a deer that was struck by a motorcycle on Tuesday in Hackettstown, New Jersey, police said.
Authorities are asking motorists to be extra careful of deer following the incident at Warren County around 10 p.m.
The teen was cycling when the deer bolted onto the roadway, only to be hit by a motorist traveling south. The injured deer crashed into the teen cyclist.
The deer left both the bicycle damaged and the teen with minor injuries.
The driver drove off from the scene post-collision, Hackettstown Police Lt. Darren Tynan told lehighvalleylive.com.
Following the accident, the Hackettstown Police released a series of safety tips for drivers to better navigate potential encounters with deer: Slow down if a deer is spotted, watch for “Deer Crossing” signs, slow down when traveling through areas known to have a high concentration of deer, use high beams after dark if there is no oncoming traffic and don’t tailgate.
