MARLBORO, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Schools in a New Jersey district will be closed Thursday over threats to multiple buildings, officials said.
The threats were made to Marlboro Township Schools in Monmouth County on Thursday morning, according to officials.
School district officials wrote on social media that they took "immediate action to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and faculty."
The initial plan was to delay the opening of schools for two hours, but the district ultimately decided to close schools for the day over the "emergency."
There’s been no word on the nature of the threats, which were made to the Marlboro Memorial Middle School and Board of Education buildings.
The closures were made "out of an abundance of caution to allow authorities to thoroughly investigate the situation and ensure that the premises are safe for everyone," according to officials.
Marlboro Township Police Department confirmed "law-enforcement agencies are currently conducting a thorough and comprehensive check of the buildings."
