NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Donald Trump’s New Jersey golf club charged the Secret Service over $10,000 for rooms in May—part of the more than $50,000 the agency has paid the former president’s businesses since he left office in January, according to a report.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that the Secret Service released records showing that it paid Trump Bedminster $10,199.52 in May for guest rooms that were used by Trump's protective detail.
According to the report, the bill suggests Trump Bedminster charged the Secret Service $566.64 per night for 18 nights at a four-bedroom “cottage” at the golf club.
While the Secret Service has only released the bill for May, a "hotel request" form the agency provided to the Post hints that agents could be staying at Bedminster until at least early July.
After leaving the White House in January, Trump lived at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida. He stayed there until early May, when he moved to Bedminster.
Mar-a-Lago Club charged the Secret Service more than $40,000 for a room at the property during Trump’s stay there from January to early May, the Post reported.
In all, the Secret Service has paid Trump businesses more than $50,000 for rooms for its agents since Trump left the White House, according to the report, which noted that there are no laws prohibiting the payments.
The Trump Organization didn’t respond to a request for comment, while the Secret Service declined to comment, the Post said.
