NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A United Airlines flight headed for Puerto Rico on Saturday morning had to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, one week after the same flight path made a similar return.

Flight 2143 flew back to Newark Airport at about 10 a.m. after the crew reported a fire alarm in the flight deck, the FAA said.

A spokesperson for United said that the alarm going off led the pilot to turn around as a precaution.

The Boeing 767-400 was headed to Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan. There were 230 passengers and eight crew members aboard, the airline said.

"The aircraft landed safely and customers deplaned normally at the gate," United said. "We’ve arranged for a new aircraft to take our customers to San Juan this afternoon."

The FAA is investigating the incident.

This is the second time Flight 2143 was forced to turn back to Newark Airport this month. It made an emergency landing last Saturday due to a possible mechanical issue.
