TOMS RIVER, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A store in the Ocean County Mall in southern New Jersey was robbed of an estimated $1 million in jewelry after a thief or thieves cut a hole in the wall of an adjacent store and burglarized the establishment, police said.

At about 10:10 a.m., officers from the Toms River Police Department responded to Venzio Jewelers in the Ocean County Mall after business representatives reported the robbery.

According to the representatives, the burglary had to have occurred between 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m. on Thursday.

During that window, an unknown number of suspects entered the store through a hole that was cut in the wall near the business’ rear office area.

Police said that the suspect or suspects cut the hole from an adjacent empty store.

Those responsible also cut the phone and alarm cables, officials said, and used a torch to enter a large safe where they removed the $1 million in jewelry.

The scene was processed by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Division.
