NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A man driving a van jumped a curb and hit a woman in her 80s as she was sitting on a sidewalk bench killing her, on Thursday in Patterson, New Jersey.
The van also struck a nearby scooter rider. The incident happened around 1:50 p.m. at the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Broadway, Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh confirmed with nj.com.
The elderly woman was trapped beneath the van following the collision. The woman was pronounced dead.
The scooter rider's condition has not yet been released.
Authorities have detained an individual suspected to be the van's driver, according to nj.com.
The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office is leading the ongoing investigation.
