A friend called 911 from Shoreham Beach after she lost sight of Scheiber around 6:50 a.m.

Suffolk Police officers who spoke with the friend directed the police helicopter to the search area where Scheiber was found.

Floatation devices were dropped from the helicopter to Scheiber, and then members of the Wading River Fire Department responded on a boat and transported her to shore.

Scheiber was taken to an area hospital for evaluation, police said.
