NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Flood Watch is in effect on Monday as rounds of heavy rain continued rolling through the New York City area.
The downpours, which started Sunday, are expected to last through Monday night. The Flood Watch will expire on Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service warned of "significant total rainfall of 2 to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts of 4 inches or more."
Mayor Zohran Mamdani said city workers were taking various steps to protect the city, including clearing catch basins, inspecting flood-prone neighborhoods, reaching out to people in basement apartments and positioning emergency response teams across the boroughs.

According to AccuWeather, rounds of rain and drenching thunderstorms are possible Monday, along with localized flash flooding. The rain will taper overnight, though another shower or two is possible Tuesday.
It’s otherwise much cooler than it was over the holiday weekend. Temps have plunged from near-100 degrees to the low 70s.
Temps will warm to the 80s by Wednesday, when the sun is set to return. A mix of sun and clouds are in the forecast on Thursday and Friday, when highs will be in the upper 80s.
