NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch on Thursday as storms threaten to bring several inches of rain to the New York City area.
The NWS said some areas could get up to 3 inches of rain with peak rainfall rates between 1.5 to 2.5 inches per hour.
According to AccuWeather, heavy thunderstorms are set to produce multiple rounds of rain and locally damaging wind gusts.

The Flood Watch is in effect through the evening and covers all five boroughs, as well as Nassau County, the Hudson Valley and a swath of North and Central Jersey.
"Thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and damaging winds to our city," Mayor Zohran Mamdani wrote on social media. "Our agencies are preparing our streets to clear stormwater quickly, and emergency crews are ready to respond."
This month has been the rainiest August in NYC in five years, according to NWS, with just over 8 inches of rain recorded at Central Park as of Sunday. That's more than 4.5 inches above normal.
