NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A storm system is threatening to bring rain and travel disruptions to the New York City area on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday ahead of Arctic conditions next week.

The rainswept system is set to move across the Midwest early this week before hitting the East Coast with downpours on Thanksgiving Thursday, according to AccuWeather.

Periods of rain are expected throughout the day Thursday from NYC to Philadelphia, while snow is possible further inland and to the north.

Wind gusts of 20 mph are also possible, which could pose a problem for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and its procession of massive floats along Sixth Avenue on Thursday morning.

Depending on how the storm tracks, the rainy weather may stick around into Black Friday, when post-holiday travel begins, though it should clear out as the day progresses.

The good news for travelers: Aside from the storm on Thursday and early Friday—and some rain Tuesday morning—the rest of the week is looking pretty clear, including Saturday and Sunday.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday are expected to be the busiest air travel days of the holiday week, according to the TSA, which is predicting its “busiest Thanksgiving ever.”

This week will mark not only the beginning of the holiday season but the arrival of much colder temps. While the week starts relatively mild—with highs of 54 and 58 degrees on Monday and Tuesday, respectively—temps will begin to drop out mid-week.

Wednesday and Thursday will see highs near 50, but it’ll be in the mid-40s on Friday, low 40s on Saturday, and upper 30s on Sunday. Temps will then linger in the 30s and 40s next week.

Highs will be about 5 to 15 degrees below average to start December.
