NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A storm that began Saturday night and went into early Sunday morning blanketed New York City and its surrounding area in snow, paving the way for more winter weather later this week.
Central Park saw 3.1 inches of snow accumulation, with totals ranging from 2.2 inches on Staten Island to 4.1 inches in north Queens and 4.6 inches in some areas of the Bronx, according to the National Weather Service.
Long Island and Connecticut got up to 5 inches in some areas, while New Jersey was coated in about 2 to 3 inches total. The National Weather Service said that lingering snow over Long Island and Connecticut will end by late morning, but northwest winds will come in at 20 to 30 mph during the afternoon.
The storm on Saturday triggered a Winter Weather Advisory that began at 5 p.m. and expired at 11 a.m. Sunday.
More than 700 salt spreaders with NYC Sanitation were filled and ready to go before the storm, and the agency said that thousands of workers were on the roads to keep people safe throughout.
NYC Sanitation said that snow officially ended at 5:30 a.m., and all property owners must clear sidewalks by 11 a.m.

The agency reposted a video by television host and New Yorker Andy Cohen, who was with Sarah Jessica Parker. The “Sex and the City” star was dazzled by the snowplows and took a picture as they made their way through the streets.
“She’s so excited that the plows—you know what, everybody’s doing their job,” Cohen said as flurries poured down on them.
“New York City, doing its job,” Parker responded.

Clouds will break for sunshine with a high of 39 throughout the day, but officials were still warning New Yorkers about the dangers of untreated surfaces and ice on Sunday morning.
Untreated surfaces will become icy and slippery, and melting snow can freeze to cause patches of ice, NYC Emergency Management said. Those traveling are advised to use extreme caution and allow extra time for commutes.
A Code Blue is in effect to protect vulnerable New Yorkers from the cold, and residents are encouraged to call 311 if they see someone in need.
Sunday night will be partly cloudy with a low of 26, and residents are encouraged to watch for a refreeze from melting snow, AccuWeather said.
The work week will kick off with partial sunshine but a touch colder of a day, with AccuWeather forecasting a high of 35 on Monday.

More winter weather is expected to hit NYC on Tuesday into Wednesday, according to AccuWeather.
On Tuesday it will be cloudy with occasional snow from late afternoon to night, especially in suburbs south of the city. The high will reach 32.

A flurry will start the day on Wednesday, but the day will otherwise be mostly cloudy and cold with a high of 36. Another round of snow and ice is going to rain down at night.
AccuWeather said that some of the rain could linger into Thursday, but Friday will be dry with some sunshine.
It is not yet clear how much, if any, of the snow later this week will accumulate.
