NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A light coating of snow is expected in some areas of New York and New Jersey before the holiday, though dreams of an actual white Christmas are a long shot, according to AccuWeather’s forecast.

Monday afternoon will be sunny and reach a high of 38 before nighttime, when clouds will take over and the temperature will drop to a low of 33.

A bit of snow overnight and into the morning will accumulate into an inch in the nearby northern and western suburbs of NYC, and up to two inches northwest of I-287. The Tuesday morning commute will be slippery, AccuWeather said.

Snow will mix with and then turn into rain as Tuesday goes on, lasting through midday, according to AccuWeather. It will be cloudy otherwise with a high of 39.

Temperatures will continue to climb Christmas Eve, stopping at a high of 43 on a mostly blustery and sunny Wednesday. Christmas Day will be cloudy with a high of 44, AccuWeather said, keeping the holiday dry.

But a post-Christmas storm could be brewing on a cloudy and colder Friday, AccuWeather said. A winter storm could bring some snow, ice and rain to the area as highs again dip to the upper 30s.
