NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A storm system will drench the NYC area with rain late Thursday and early Friday before temps turn bitterly cold on Saturday, according to AccuWeather, which also said a major warmup is on tap next week.

Thursday’s fleeting sunshine will give way to clouds by evening, when showers will begin popping up throughout the metro area.

Periods of rain and drizzle are expected to continue overnight as lows dip to about 38 degrees in Midtown Manhattan.

More rain is in the forecast for the city on Friday morning, while Long Island may see rain until the early afternoon. The high in the city will be 47 Friday.

The five boroughs will dodge the snow and ice forecasted for upstate.

Conditions turn blustery and cold Saturday despite some sun. The high will be 36 in Midtown, but winds will push RealFeels down into the low 20s and teens.

Sunday won’t be quite as cold, with a high of 43 and plenty of sunshine.

That will kick off a trend of milder weather going into early next week, when highs are expected to reach the 50s on Monday and Tuesday, and the 60s on Wednesday.
