NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Temperatures will soar into the 60s on Wednesday as a powerful storm menaces the New York City area with damaging wind gusts, flooding rain and even rumbles of thunder.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for the entire Tri-State area from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday, as gusts are expected to top 40 mph at times.

According to AccuWeather, the stormiest stretch will be in the late afternoon and evening, when heavy downpours and strong wind gusts may cause delays for commuters and flooding in low-lying areas.

It will otherwise be unseasonably warm in the boroughs. Wednesday's high of 61 degrees is more than 20 degrees above the average for this time of year.

Showers could linger into late Wednesday before conditions dry out—and turn much colder—overnight. The low will be just 32 in the city.

Wednesday’s spring-like weather will all but disappear by Thursday, making for a wintry but sunny end to February. The high will be 41 in Midtown. Snow is even in the forecast upstate.

Friday will be much milder, with temps near 50 under partly sunny skies. More clouds, and a chance of a shower, will return Friday night.

The mild weather is set to continue into the weekend. A high of 52 is forecasted for Saturday, and a high of 59 for Sunday. Both days will be mostly cloudy with the potential for rain in some spots.
