NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday revealed that the mystery drones flown across New Jersey at the end of 2024 were "authorized to be flown by the FAA".
"I do have news directly from the president of the United States that was just shared with me in the Oval Office, from President Trump directly, an update on the New Jersey drones," Leavitt said during the first press briefing of President Donald Trump's second administration.
"After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized to be flown by the FAA for research and various other reasons. Many of these drones were also hobbyists, recreational and private individuals that enjoy flying drones," Leavitt added. "In time, it got worse due to curiosity. This was not the enemy."
Reports of drones in the skies began in November with thousands of sightings continuing throughout December, prompting the Federal Aviation Administration to temporarily ban drone operations in nearly two dozen cities and towns in New Jersey.
