SURF CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A 55-year-old woman was charged Tuesday with the stabbing deaths of her father and his girlfriend — found dead inside their Jersey Shore home last weekend, officials said.

Sherry Lee Heffernan is charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of weapon in connection to the fatal stabbings of John Enders, 87, and Francoise Pitoy, 75.

The victims' bodies with "multiple obvious stab wounds" were discovered Sunday by officers at the home on North 7th Avenue in deaths deemed "suspicious."

The Ocean County Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy of Enders' body determined his death was a result of multiple stab wounds with severance of the right carotid artery and blunt force trauma.

An autopsy on Pitoy's body is expected to be conducted Tuesday.

Heffernan was arrested Monday by the state police in Landenberg, Pennsylvania and will be held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.

"The cooperative investigation ultimately determined that Heffernan, Mr. Enders' daughter, was responsible for the deaths of both Mr. Enders and Ms. Pitoy," Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
