NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- Federal agents arrested a woman on Tuesday after a gun was discovered insider her carry-on luggage at a Newark Liberty International Airport checkpoint, authorities said.
A statement on Wednesday from the Transportation Security Administration said the unloaded 9mm handgun was found as it entered the X-ray unit at Terminal B.
At first, officials first thought the gun belonged to the man who put the bag on the carousel, but later learned it was actually owned by his aunt, with whom he was traveling.
The woman, a California resident, was returning a rental vehicle and admitted the firearm was hers when she arrived at the checkpoint, according to the TSA.
The woman's identity and charges against her will be provided at a later time, a Port Authority police spokeswoman said.
