WILDWOOD, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A woman sunbathing on a New Jersey beach was seriously injured when she was run over by a police car last week, authorities confirmed.
According to officials, around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the on-duty officer driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck ran over the woman while responding to an unspecified ordinance violation near Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood.
Emergency responders were called to the beach for a report of a person struck by a vehicle. She was airlifted to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division and transported her to Maxwell Field by the Wildwood Fire Department.
The woman suffered multiple broken ribs, three fractured vertebrae and a lung injury and is expected to survive.
Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano called the incident an "unfortunate situation."
