
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A 44-year-old worker fell nine stories down an elevator to his death at a New Jersey construction site Wednesday morning, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred at 7:30 a.m. at 136 Summit Avenue, in the Bergen Hill neighborhood of Jersey City at a 99-unit, mixed-use building, according to Jersey City spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione.
The construction worker, whose name has not yet been released, was transported to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
The site was shut down following the incident and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was called to the scene.
Authorities have not released additional details on the incident as an investigation remains ongoing.
