FLEMINGTON, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A worker was killed in an accident involving a wood-chipper at a cemetery in New Jersey on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The 22-year-old worker, Eonias Mateo-Perez, was dead by the time police officers responding to a 911 call arrived at Saint Magdalen Cemetery in Flemington around 6:20 p.m., according to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
Mateo-Perez, of Flemington, had suffered fatal injuries “while operating tree-chipping equipment,” the prosecutor’s office said.
A preliminary investigation determined his death was accidental, according to prosecutors, who said detectives are continuing to investigate.
Members of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded to the scene and are investigating the work-related death.
