NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Israel's cabinet voted early Wednesday to accept a deal for a temporary ceasefire with Hamas that would involve the exchange of 50 hostages abducted by Hamas during its Oct. 7 terror attack in southern Israel for Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails, Israeli media reported.

The plan includes the release of 30 kidnapped children, eight mothers and 12 more women during a five-day cease-fire, Israel's Haaretz reported, citing a senior Israeli official.

All branches of the Israeli security services – the IDF, the Shin Bet and the Mossad – support the planned deal, according to the official.

The official added that the agreement is only for Israelis who are still alive, adding that Hamas may release foreign nationals at the same time, in accordance with deals reached with those countries.

Israeli Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu said the ceasefire does not mean the war is over.

“We will not stop the war after the ceasefire,” he said. “There is nonsense out there suggesting that we will halt the war after the cease-fire to return the hostages. I would like to make it clear – we are at war, and we will continue the war until we achieve all our goals: eliminate Hamas, return all the hostages and missing, and guarantee that there will be no threat to Israel in Gaza.”
