Mecole Hardman was a healthy scratch on Sunday, and the Jets have not given the wide receiver much of a role since signing with the team in the offseason.
Gio is befuddled at the lack of usage for Hardman, and Boomer wonders if Zach Wilson has anything to do with the sparing playing time.
“It comes back to the quarterback, man,” Boomer said. “You either have a legitimate guy who is spreading the ball around and understands what they want to do…this guy, for some reason, has just not been able to figure it out.
“I’m sure if Aaron Rodgers were playing, there would be some way for him to get involved…you’re with Zach, and Zach is very limited. Doesn’t see the field very well.”
Even with Rodgers going down with an Achilles injury, Gio expected Hardman to be more prominent in the passing game, and certainly not nonexistent.
“Once you say that Corey Davis retired, I thought it was gonna be all hands on deck with the receivers,” Gio said. “The fact that he’s not around is odd to me.”
