As a first-round date between Hudson River rivals looks more and more likely, Rangers superfan Boomer Esiason is beginning to do some crucial planning.

Whose Devils jersey will he be sticking in his freezer to force a cold streak in the seven-game series?

With Gio’s help, Boomer laid out his candidates.

“The guys who I think are a pain in the ass, Jack Hughes, 100 percent pain in the ass,” Boomer said. “Nico Hischier, he’s the captain, great player in his own right. I’m thinking, if it is the Devils, which I think it’s gonna be…the other sneaky guy that’s on this team that’s having a great season, and a much better season than he had last year, and he’s one of those guys that makes the whole thing go, that damn Dougie Hamilton.”

Hughes is closing in on New Jersey’s franchise record for points in a season, while Hamilton has been one of the best offensive defenseman in the league this season. The Devils are loaded with young talent, including Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Dawson Mercer, as well as one of the top trade deadline acquisitions in Timo Meier, but Boomer is going with the team’s biggest star and top defenseman.

So, off to the icebox with No. 86 and No. 7.

“Hamilton and Hughes are going right in the freezer,” Boomer said.

As for where Boomer will get those jerseys, Gio suggested the Devils might send them to Boomer, which he didn’t believe for a second.

“ They may,” Gio countered. “I think they might. I don’t think they’re afraid. They’re not scared.”
