BT doesn't think Sean Casey will get 'broken' DJ LeMahieu back on track

BT is thrilled about Sean Casey being hired as the Yankees new hitting coach, but he isn’t holding out hope that the change in coaching will mean a change in production for DJ LeMahieu.

In fact, BT doesn’t believe there is a coach out there who could fix the struggling, and aging, veteran.

“I don’t think his approach is broken,” BT said of LeMahieu. “I think his body is broken.

“Unless Sean Casey is bringing some good medicine, I don’t see how he’s going to impact DJ LeMahieu.”

LeMahieu, just days away from 35, is batting just .220 at the All-Star break, a drastic dropoff for a two-time batting champion. But with recent injuries cutting short his last two seasons, BT believes LeMahieu is simply washed up, and a new coach won’t add any life back into his bat, which seemed so vibrant over the first two-plus years of his Yankee tenure.

“He just looked a lot smoother,” BT said. “His gate, it looks like he’s hurt, and it looks like he’s a little heavy. If you’ve had toe and hip issues the past couple years like he’s had, what’s one of the hardest things to do? Cardiovascular stuff.”
